Get Started on the Diploma Pathway

Develop your coding skills to begin the coding journey. This course includes the first part of the Diploma of Clinical Coding and brings students up to Basic Coding level.  We recognise those who successfully complete this course for continuing on and completing the Diploma.

If you don’t feel that you can commit to the full Diploma this course includes the introductory components of the Diploma and you can always add the more complex units later if you decide that this is for you.

Our trainers are qualified Clinical Coders, Health Information Managers, Health Informaticians, and Educators. Using eHRol, the world leading clinical coder training tool, to simulate the clinical coding environment, with our tutor acting as your mentors, you will be supported throughout and can work at your own pace.

There are no pre-requisites for this course, but applicants must be proficient in English in order to understand complex instructions and benefit fully.

Recognition on Successful Completion

eHE is authorised by the Australian Government to issue qualifications including certificates associated with this course.

Upon successful completion you will receive a Statement of Attainment for the following competencies:

Medical Terminology and Anatomy Text – must be purchased separately, available from any online book seller.
Sue Walker, Maryann Wood and Jenny Nicol, Mastering Medical Terminology: Australia and New Zealand 3rd Ed, Elsevier 2020

Code Books– you must have access to ICD-10-AM resources to take this course . You may also need access to a grouper tool, but more information about these resources will be provided when you enrol. Use the student discount code provided when you enrol.

ICD-10-AM code book costs approximately $300 – $490 depending on the format you choose and the edition you need.

  • Electronic Code Books –We recommend the TurboCoder– Electronic code book and reference tools combined –as the best fit for our courses.
  • Hardcopy Code Books– 5 books in the set – most expensive

Materials Provided

  • Learner’s guides – are the text books for clinical coding used in conjunction with other references and coding books.
  • Presentation videos of key content where relevant.
  • References to other sites and documents to assist additional learning
  • Access to eHRol is included: this simulated coding environment contains thousands of real patient records or extracts from real records with instant feedback for practice and assessment in addition to tutor support.
  • Formal assessment is ongoing throughout the course building your confidence and skills as you go.
  • Zoom meetings for online discussions with your personal teacher.
