Diploma of Clinical Coding (HLT50321)

This package fully prepares students for entry level Clinical Coding (ICD-10-AM) using the current edition of the International Classification of Diseases – Australian Classification of Health Interventions (ACHI) and the Australian Coding Standards (ACS).

It is Nationally recognised for entry-level clinical coding work in Hospitals, Government, Insurance and Research organisations. This includes: analyse diseases, injuries and procedures undertaken at hospitals using ICD-10-AM according to National and Jurisdictional requirements.

Recognition of Prior Learning

If you are a Clinician (Australian Medical Doctor, Registered Nurse or Midwife), your prior experience enables you to do an abridged version of the Diploma.  Please  ensure you upload copies of your credentials during the enrolment process.

Recognition on Successful Completion

eHE is authorised by the Australian Government to issue qualifications including certificates associated with this course.

Upon successful completion you will receive the Diploma of Clinical Coding (HLT50321) indicating that you have successfully shown your competence in the areas below.

  • HLTCCD002 Interpret and Navigate Healthcare records
  • HLTCCD003 Use Medical Terminology in Healthcare (There is no equivalent unit for RPL)
  • HLTCCD004 Interpret Clinical Documentation
  • HLTCCD005 Abstract Information for Clinical Coding
  • HLTCCD006 Undertake Basic Clinical Coding
  • HLTCCD007 Undertake Moderately Complex Clinical Coding
  • HLTWHS001 Participate in Workplace Health and Safety

If you do not complete or pass the whole Diploma you may request an Statement of Attainment for those competencies you did successfully complete.

eHE staff and contributors have been active participants in the national Workforce evaluations of clinical coder education, and the recent review which led to the development of the Diploma in Clinical Coding.
