Your pathway to knowledge

This course prepares you to be a clinical coder, covering all clinical specialties. The course is designed to get you ready for a coding job, not just to gain knowledge but real skills. Using eHRol the world leading clinical coder training tool to simulate the clinical coding environment you will be practices as well as skilled when you finish.

Coding is a profession for people who are detail oriented and can interpret instructions well.

There are no prerequisite qualifications for this course.
Applicants must be proficient in English. in order to understand complex instructions to benefit fully.

International Students Studying Offshore

ICD coding is considered to be a skill in demand as defined by the Australian Government.

Courses provided by Australia’s top coding educators using the top coder training tools and processes for international students studying offshore can still study for recognised qualifications through eHE.

Course Structure

This course package is presented in 6 courses each also available separately.  The learning is integrated, teaching a number of skills at the same time.

The estimated hours to complete includes study time, practice and assessments (750 hours).  You may progress at your own speed but you should expect to complete this course in 2 – 4 years.  The course includes:

Required Tools

Code Books – you must have access to ICD-10-AM resources to take this course – full details of how to obtain your books are in the Getting Started Guide but a summary and links are given below. ICD-10-AM costs approximately $300 – $490 depending on the format you choose and the edition you need.

If you are in a country where ICD-10-AM is  not licensed (such as India or the Philippines) you will need to obtain permission to purchase the code books.

We will give you information on how to do this and as an EHE student you can expect to be approved.  You will need you have your EHE student number when you apply.

Text and Materials Provided

  • Learner’s guides – are the text book as well as a guide on how to move through the course.
  • Presentation videos of key content where relevant.
  • References to other sites and documents to assist additional learning
  • Access to eHRol is included:  this simulated coding environment contains thousands of real patient records or extracts from real records with instant feedback for practice and assessment in addition to tutor support.
  • Formal assessment is ongoing throughout the course building your confidence and skills as you go.
  • Zoom meetings for online discussions with your personal teacher.

Recognition

You will receive a statement of attainment including details of study hours to support 10 credit points.

A masters level course – with international recognition.

Industry Engagement

This course has been designed with consideration of the requirements for professionals coming from different backgrounds, including clinical, administrative and information technology.

Our course developers and tutors work internationally as consultants – yes we don’t just teach we DO.  We also actively participate and in some cases lead development of international standards at ISO and HL7 and contribute actively to code system development such as that with SNOMED CT.  The courses provided are based upon internationally defined best practice, often based upon the learnings inherent in these international standards.
