This qualification is intended to provide a development pathway for practitioners with training development and instructional design roles. Such practitioners are expected to be responsible for analyzing training needs and designing training solutions and products to meet workplace capability requirements, and evaluating the effectiveness of training programs.

The course leading to this qualification is for those who may need to provide guidance and advice to trainers and assessors, promoting innovative practices, e.g e-learning, and in researching and incorporating best practice in training and assessment into training programs and products.

This qualification builds upon skills obtained from the successful completion of the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and/or past vocational training experience.

Structure and what to expect

Our learning strategy combines online digital media with traditional classroom methods in a location of your choice. We negotiate a learning pathway, including RPL, that best suits you or your group of learners as well as your employer. This qualification includes the need for practical experiences relevant to your workplace. It consists of a total of ten units of competency, five core plus five electives.

1-2 years – Workloads will vary considerably between individuals as it is very much dependent upon previous training and assessment knowledge, skills and work experience as well as the industry concerned.

By choosing your electives from the core units of competency required for the TAE50116 Diploma in Vocational Education and Training, and vice versa, you are able to obtain both qualifications by successfully completing ten competencies. Core competencies from the other Diploma are identified below in italics and with *

  • TAELLN501 Support the development of adult language, literacy and numeracy skills -elective
  • *TAEASS502 Design and develop assessment tools -core

Note: this last competency (TAEASS502) is also a core requirement for the TAE40116 Certificate of Training and Assessment.

Candidates are required to attend several workshops in person or via our videoconferencing facilitates. These workshops require participation in group discussions, sharing of experiences and include instructions for the undertaking of various self directed project work items, including a ‘practicum’ with online support during your study duration. This project work may consist of a review and update of material previously developed.

This course requires candidates to successfully complete all given activities and project work, and compile a portfolio consisting of examples of practical work undertaken. Assessment activities undertaken provide additional learning opportunities and enable candidates to self assess their progress throughout.

Prior Knowledge & Skills Recommended

English language skills – Competent User

(International English Language Testing System (IELTS) – 6) (or equivalent in the language of presentation)

Basic computing skills including the ability to undertake a range of everyday computer operations and the ability to use the internet, email, save and retrieve documents and to recognize the different types of documents.
